Mr. Chan Meng Kam, Chairman of the Council of City University of Macau, visited the Ministry of Education with representatives of the University while attending the First Plenary Session of the Eleventh Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee in Beijing. Other than Mr. Chan Meng Kam, representatives of the University also included Dr. Qiu Xiaohua, Secretary General of the Foundation of City University of Macau and Director of the University’s Institute of Economic Research, Prof. Yan Zexian, Rector of the University and Prof. Xing Wenxiang, Vice-Rector. They were warmly received by Deputy Education Ministers Hao Ping and Liu Limin, heads of the Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs and officials of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges. Mr. Li Gang, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macau S.A.R. and Mr. Sou Chio Fai, Director of the Tertiary Education Services Office of Macau S.A.R Government also attended the meeting. The meeting was cordial and pragmatic. Mr. Chan and the heads of the University introduced the Renaming, Restructuring, Transforming and Upgrading process City University of Macau has been going through, as well as the future development plan and the hard work done by the University in various areas, such as talent cultivation, scientific research, community services and a wide range of international cooperation and exchanges. Praising the University’s effort, the Deputy Education Ministers and other officials then had an enthusiastic discussion with the representatives of City University of Macau regarding the University’s current situation and future progress. They shared a number of relevant information, experiences and methods for references and expressed great expectations for the future of City U. Finally, the Deputy Education Ministers provided some suggestions for City University of Macau: to further improve teaching quality and academic level by inviting and employing more renowned educators and academics; to continue contributing talents for mainland China and Macau by appropriately expanding mainland students admissions and increasing communication and cooperation with mainland; to strengthen the capability for scientific research by cementing the establishment of the Research Centre for Macau Social and Economic Development, a key research base of Ministry of Education on humanities and social sciences subjects. The meeting was then concluded successfully.
