Professor João Sobrinho Teixeira and Professor Luis Pais, the President and Vice-President of the Polytechnic Institute Portuguese Coordination Committee and the Polytechnic Institute of Braganca, accompanied by Director of Tertiary Education Services Office, Mr Sou Chio Fai, and President of Macau Polytechnic Institute, Professor Li Xiang-Yu et al, visited City University of Macau at April 16th, 2012. They were warmly welcomed by the University’s Rector Yan Ze-Xian and company, and heldd a friendly meeting together.

Rector Yan Ze-Xian introduced the history and origin of City U of Macau, as well as the University’s advantages on having a relatively longer history, larger scope, and higher levels on both education and internationalization. Rector Yan also emphasized the role of Macau as a bridge and a platform among China, Portugal and eight Portuguese-speaking countries, pointing out that City U of Macau has the capacity to be a comprehensive, multi-leveled and interactive collaborator on aspects such as personnel development, academic researches, and social services. Rector Yan suggested some projects (for example, Portuguese training, student exchanges, etc.) could be carried on gradually as suitable to the current situation, then other programs, such as combined education, could be developed step by step depending on future prospects.

President João Sobrinho Teixeira made the introduction that the Polytechnic Institute Portuguese Coordination Committee was an organization consisted of 15 polytechnic institutes, Macau Polytechnic Institute being one of its members. The Committee’s member institutes now has more than 120,000 current students; they represent the standards and distinctive features of Portuguese polytechnic institutes. After listening to Rector Yan’s suggestions, President João Sobrinho Teixeira agreed with Rector Yan, and said that he hoped the Committee and City U of Macau could start this path of collaboration when he returned home, so both could benefit from each other’s strengths and be great partners together in the future.

Other participants of this meeting also included: City University of Macau’s Assistant Rector and Registrar Xing Wen-Xiang, International Open Institute Director’s Assistant Xu Yan-Ping, Rector’s Office Secretary Wu Cheng-Yu, Academic Division staff Lin Xue-Yi, among others.
