The 2024 International Academic Conference on the Green Innovation and Modern Service Industry Development and the Revitalization of Culture and Tourism Industry was successfully concluded at the Center for International Academic Exchange, Jinghu campus, Zhejiang Yuexiu University. Co-hosted by the Faculty of International Tourism and Management (FITM) of the City University of Macau (CityU), the conference focused on the modern service sector, especially the opportunities and challenges for innovation in the cultural tourism industry, during China’s transformation towards a green economy in its social and economic sectors. Prof. Jacky Li Xi, executive associate dean of FITM, attended and delivered a speech via video conference, while Associate Prof. Wang Xin, program coordinator, delivered a keynote speech, providing insights and suggestions for green development and revitalization of the cultural tourism industry.

During his speech, Prof. Jacky Li Xi emphasized the importance of promoting digital and information consumption, e-product development, information-driven business management, and higher education training for digital cultural tourism professionals. He also emphasized the need to adapt to current social development and promote the revitalization of the cultural tourism industry, as well as the digitalization and green development of modern service industry. He used the Faculty of International Tourism and Management as an example, highlighting its important role in promoting educational innovation and training talents for the cultural tourism industry.

Associate Professor Wong Xin delivered a keynote speech titled “Macao’s Tourism in the Digital Era: Reshaping Frontiers and Promoting Sustainable Development.” She called on considering four key directions when exploring tourism sustainability, namely addressing women’s needs, leveraging the “silver industry” for economic contribution, embracing digitalization, and promoting health tourism experiences.

Experts at the conference engaged in in-depth discussions on the latest research findings and advanced experiences in the industry, sharing their research directions for industry development trends. On behalf of the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, Associate Professor Wong Xin exchanged souvenirs with Shang Yunfeng, dean of the International School of Hospitality Management at Zhejiang Yuexiu University, and Che-Jen Su, distinguished professor at the Department of Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management at Fu Jen Catholic University. This conference has laid a solid foundation for future exchanges among the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, academic units, and the industry.

The 2024 International Academic Conference on the Green Innovation and Modern Service Industry Development and the Revitalization of Culture and Tourism Industry was organized under the support of the Professional Committee of the Modern Services of the China Society of Industrial Economics. It was co-hosted by the Shaoxing Culture and Tourism Internationalization Innovation Team and the Shaoxing Culture and Tourism Industry Research Institute. It was jointly organized by the School of Hotel Management and the Leisure Tourism Development Research Center of the Zhejiang Yuexiu Institute of Foreign Languages, and School of Economics of the Tianjin University of Commerce, and co-organized by China International Tourism Education Association, Faculty of International Tourism and Management of City University of Macau, and Zhejiang Agricultural Business College.
