A student team of the Faculty of Data Science of the City University of Macau won second place at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Regional of the 2024 China College Students Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition – Intelligent Precision Assembly Competition.
The regional competition was hosted by t Shenzhen University recently and attracted over 200 students and faculty from 19 universities in Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, and Macao to participate.
The CityU team, comprised of undergraduate students Zhao Ruifan, Zhan Chuntian, and Huang Tianqi, excelled at the regional competition. They were guided by Assistant Professor Yoyo Kong Hoi Io, program coordinator of the undergraduate program. The competition was divided into two stages: defense and practical demonstration. The defense stage assessed the team’s analytical ability through a practical task that challenged their logical thinking, innovation, and presentation skills. The practical demonstration stage evaluated the team’s coding skills for the assembly process, their ability to adapt to unexpected situations, and their demonstration strategies.
