As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, with the moon full and the autumn fields fragrant, it marks another wonderful time of the year. To immerse faculty, staff, and students in the festive atmosphere and promote traditional Chinese culture, City University of Macau (CityU) organized a variety of Mid-Autumn themed activities. These events enhanced unity among the university community, allowing everyone to share in the joy of the festival and appreciate the charm of this cultural celebration, creating unforgettable memories here at CityU.

Faculty and Staff Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration, Supporting Disadvantaged Communities Through the Festival

To express care and foster a festive atmosphere among faculty and staff, the Human Resources Office recently held an event to present mooncake gift boxes. The event featured interactive games and small gifts. Joy and laughter filled the air.

CityU not only cares for the physical and mental well-being of its staff but also strives to fulfill its social responsibilities. This time, the mooncake gift boxes are sourced from a collaboration between the Fuhong Society of Macau and a traditional bakery, supporting local social welfare organizations and caring for disadvantaged communities. It is hoped that all faculty and staff, along with their families and the underprivileged in society, can share in the joy that the Mid-Autumn Festival brings.

Mid-Autumn Festival Tea Party for Foreign Faculty, Experience Traditional Chinese Culture and Share Blessings

To help foreign faculty experience the atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival and understand traditional Chinese culture, the Human Resources Office held the Mid-Autumn Tea Party for all foreign faculty today. University leaders, department heads, and foreign faculty celebrated the festival together. This year, CityU welcomed more academic elites from different countries and regions, further strengthening its international research team.

During the event, Rector Jun Liu discussed the traditional significance and culture of the Mid-Autumn Festival, presenting mooncake gift boxes and festival blessings to the foreign faculty, hoping they would feel the warmth of this traditional Chinese holiday. The meeting included a tea break, allowing foreign faculty to gain a deeper understanding of Mid-Autumn culture in a relaxed setting, which promoted communication among staff and advanced cultural diversity at the campus, enhancing cohesion and team spirit.

The foreign faculty expressed that the event allowed them to experience the unique charm of the Mid-Autumn Festival. They hoped to use this platform for academic exchange and to help more young scholars develop and improve in their teaching and research through their own experiences.

New Student Orientation Sharing Session, Conveying CityU’s Mid-Autumn Blessings

To help new students better adapt to university life and understand campus culture, the Student Affairs Office recently held a New Student Orientation Sharing Session at the Cultural Centre Theatre, Taipa Campus. Representatives from the office shared a “Macao Guide,” highlighting the differences and important points between life in Macao and the mainland.

The session also featured a presentation by a criminal investigator from the Judicial Police, who introduced anti-fraud strategies. They explained various common telecom and online scams, including online shopping fraud, Impersonation of Public Security, Procuratorate, and Court Fraud, and phishing messages, using engaging videos and case studies to enhance students’ awareness of fraud prevention.

The event included interactive games and a lucky draw, where the Student Affairs Office patiently addressed students’ questions and shared practical advice. As the Mid-Autumn Festival approached, to help new students feel the festive atmosphere and better integrate into life in Macao and at the University, SAO prepared exquisite refrigerator magnets and Portuguese custard mooncakes as Mid-Autumn gifts for each attendee, offering warm holiday wishes. Nearly 600 new students participated in the event.
