Secretary of State for Higher Education, Consul-General of Republic of Angola in Macao leads delegation to visit CityU

Eugénio Adolfo Alves da Silva, secretary of State for Higher Education of Republic of Angola, and Eduardo Velasco Galiano, consul-general of the Republic of Angola in Macao, visited City University of Macau (CityU) today with the support of the Macao SAR Government Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ). The delegation was warmly received by Vice Rector Han Wei. This visit not only marked new progress in educational cooperation between the two sides but was also a positive step towards deepening academic exchanges and talent training cooperation.

The delegation visited the campus and the Sino-Portugal Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Science of Cultural Heritage Conservation. The two sides had in-depth discussions and exchanges on various topics such as promoting higher education cooperation, talent training, and academic cooperation between the two sides. Teresa João Alvaro dos Santos Tiago, deputy consul-general of the Republic of Angola in Macao, and Tam Sio Wa, head of the Higher Education Cooperation and Exchange Division of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of DSEDJ, also attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Vice Rector Han Wei warmly welcomed the Angolan delegation and introduced CityU’s faculty structure, discipline development, and future development direction. José C. Alves, dean of the CityU’s Faculty of Business, Lixian Jin, dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and João Pedro Lopes Simões, assistant professor of the Institute for Research on Portuguese-Speaking Countries, respectively introduced the characteristics and program strengths of their respective faculties. Everyone expressed their desire to strengthen communication and cooperation with Angolan higher education and jointly promote the international development of both sides.

Eugénio Adolfo Alves da Silva, secretary of State for Higher Education of the Republic of Angola, expressed his appreciation for CityU’s achievements in the field of education. He hoped to introduce more Angolan universities to establish cooperative relations with CityU to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in talent training, discipline development, and scientific research, and looked forward to more Angolan students and teachers coming to Macao for further study and development, so as to enhance their international competitiveness. He believed that CityU would provide students with a high-quality learning and development space.

Consul-General Eduardo Velasco Galiano introduced the status of Angolan students studying in Macao and fully recognized the educational quality of CityU. Then, the two sides conducted detailed discussions on how to further promote educational cooperation.

Both sides regarded this visit as an opportunity to strengthen connections and jointly promote educational cooperation and exchanges to a deeper and wider range of fields.

The meeting was also attended by Benedito Cipriano Malheiro, advisor to the Office of the Secretary of State for Higher Education of the Republic of Angola; Paulo Renato Pegado da Silva, attendant of the Consulate General of the Republic of Angola in Macao; Alice Cheong, a representative of DSEDJ; and Che Ka I, director of CityU Rector’s Office.
