To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the City University of Macau (CityU) recently held a grand gala, “In Celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the Macao SAR Grand Variety Show” at the Cultural Centre on its Taipa Campus. The event was organised by the Student Affairs Office and hosted by the Art Troupe of CityU, with funding and support from the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ).
DSEDJ Acting Director Lei Im Kei, Vice Council Chairwoman Kong Fanqing of CityU, Council Members Cintia Chan and Sandy Chan, CityU Advisor Ip Peng Kin, Pro-Rector Robert Chan, as along with faculty leaders and students and faculty representatives, attended the event. In his opening remarks, Lewis Chao Chan Chong, head of the Student Affairs Office, expressed gratitude for all stakeholders’ contributions and support that enabled the Art Troupe to thrive. He also voiced his hope that the Art Troupe would continue to excel and take its performances to even greater heights.
During the event, Kong Fanqing, leader of the Art Troupe, presented certificates to Chan Ka Hou, music director of the CityU Choir, Chong Kit Pai, artistic director of the Folk Music Ensemble, and representatives of the troupe members in recognition of their First Prize win at the 7th National College Student Art Exhibition and Performance event.
The gala opened with the choral performance of The Brightest Star in the Night Sky by the CityU Choir. This was followed by an award-winning solo from a choir member who won the silver medal at the 10th Singing Contest of Macao Universities, captivating the audience with an emotionally resonant rendition. The Folk Music Ensemble, Orchestra, Dance Ensemble, and other members of the Art Troupe also staged dazzling performances, showcasing CityU’s cultural and artistic vibrancy as well as cohesion while expressing heartfelt wishes for the prosperity of China and Macao.
