To explore the latest advances and future trends in large language models (LLMs) and cybersecurity technologies, the City University of Macau (CityU) hosted an academic seminar titled “Cybersecurity Technology Innovation and Applications” at its Taipa Campus today. Attended by a broad spectrum of experts and scholars from academia and industry, the event provided a platform for in-depth exchanges and discussions to promote the integration of academic research and industry development. The seminar was jointly organized by CityU, Inspur Cloud Information Technology Co., Ltd. (Inspur Cloud), and Inspur Yunzhou Industrial Internet Co., Ltd. (Inspur Yunzhou), with CityU’s Faculty of Data Science (FDS) and Direch Yunzhou (Zhuhai Hengqin) Digital Technology Co., Ltd. (Direch Yunzhou) as coordinators.

The seminar was attended by Song Pek Kei, member of the Legislative Assembly of Macao; Ung Choi Kun, vice chairman of the University Council; Zhou Wanlei, vice rector of CityU and dean of the FDS; Wu Sujin, general manager of the Hong Kong and Macao Centre of Inspur Yunzhou and chairman of Direch Yunzhou; Chen Xiang, general manager of Direch Yunzhou; Victor Ieong, founder and general manager of Vastcom Technology Limited; Hoi Ut Sim, innovation development director of BoardWare Intelligence Technology Limited; and Zhu Tianqing, associate dean of the FDS, among other guests.

Vice Chairman Ung Choi Kun underscored in his opening address that cybersecurity has taken on greater importance in the digital era. He also mentioned CityU’s active participation in the construction of China’s national public blockchain, Xinghuo BIF, and expressed hope that the seminar would contribute to Macao’s development in cybersecurity applications while strengthening collaborations with Inspur in the establishment of a state key laboratory.

During the seminar, Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei, Director Li Cong of Inspur Cloud, and General Manager Chen Xiang of Direch Yunzhou delivered keynote speeches on topical issues such as the development trajectories of LLMs, challenges and prospects in artificial intelligence (AI) applications, and innovative applications of large security models in the trading platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs). Participants also engaged in in-depth discussions on key issues such as cybersecurity education, policy-making, and cross-border collaboration. By sharing their respective experience of trading practices in PSCs, they delved deeper into the different environments in the Chinese mainland and Macao to facilitate cooperation in trade, security, and technology, advancing integrated economic development in the region.

The roundtable discussion, themed “New Trade Security Ecosystems Empowered by Large Models”, examined the different environments in the mainland and Macao and the relevant opportunities for collaboration, as well as ways to align academic research with business needs. These insights helped shed more light on market demands for enterprises to refine their business strategies and enhance their competitiveness in international markets. At the same time, universities can align their efforts with the needs of industry, paving the way for closer academia-industry cooperation and cultivating more professionals tailored to market demands.

The seminar served as a platform that integrates academic knowledge with practical applications, showcasing CityU’s research capabilities in cybersecurity and AI. It also bolstered the confidence of participating experts and industry representatives for future collaborations and provided CityU with a clearer understanding of industry needs and research directions. The university aspires to leverage this event as a springboard for deeper cross-sector cooperation, catapulting Macao as a pioneer in cybersecurity innovation and applications in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The seminar was also attended by Wang Luyao, marketing director of the Hong Kong and Macao Centre of Inspur Yunzhou; Jin Mingjie, director of Inspur Cloud; Rao Fei, He Jin, Li Yang, and Han Xu, department heads of Inspur Cloud; Ying Zuobin, program coordinator of Doctoral Programs of the FDS at CityU; and Zhou Shuai, assistant professor of the FDS.
