The development of urban science is deeply intertwined with human life, influencing everything from the economy and environment to social welfare. Innovative thinking and diverse explorations in this field drive the progress of cities and their residents. As one of the key interdisciplinary focuses at City University of Macau (CityU), urban science research and studies hold significant importance. In celebration of the 44th anniversary, CityU will host the 2025 International Forum on Urban Science from March 28 (Friday) to 29 (Saturday) at the Cultural Centre on the Taipa campus. Under the theme “Historical Legacy and Modern Visions: Sustainable Urban Development in Metropolitan Areas,” the two-day forum will feature nearly 30 keynote speeches, led by eminent experts, including renowned academicians. These sessions will share fresh perspectives, stimulate new ideas, and empower high-quality development in urban science.
A highlight of this forum is the sharing of leading academicians as well as industry experts, academic pioneers, corporate leaders, young scholars, and postgraduate teams. Their rich experience, cutting-edge achievements, and innovative insights will be discussed across multiple sub-forums: the Master’s Forum, Greater Bay Area Dean’s Forum, Greater Bay Area Enterprise Forum, Young and Senior Scholars’ Forum, and Student’s Forum.
The Master’s Forum will kick off on March 28, from 10:00-13:00 and 14:15-18:00 at the Theatre of Cultural Centre. Distinguished speakers include: Chui Sai Peng José, presidents of The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau and the Macao Urban Planning Institute; Wu Zhiqiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and honorary dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University; Shi Wenzhong, academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences and Changjiang scholar of the Ministry of Education of China; Zhang Xinchang, academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences; Michael Batty, fellows of the British Academy and the Royal Society; Zhang Bing, chief planner at the Ministry of Natural Resources of China; Shen Lei, chief engineer of the Chinese Society for Urban Studies; Dang Anrong, professor at School of Architecture, Tsinghua University; Liu Yu, professor at School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University; Shen Guoqiang, national distinguished expert.
On March 29, the following forums will take place at the Exhibition Hall of Cultural Centre: Greater Bay Area Dean’s Forum (9:00-13:00); Greater Bay Area Enterprise Forum (14:00-16:00); Young and Senior Scholars Forum (16:00-18:00); Student’s Forum (19:00-21:00). Topics will span a wide range, including urban-water symbiosis, rural-urban public governance, heritage preservation and urban climate adaptation, digital twin city technologies, low-altitude economy development, multi-source data and spatial analysis, and landscape sustainability research.
