A delegation led by Gao Shiwun, deputy secretary of the Nanchang Municipal Committee and mayor, visited the City University of Macau (CityU) today. They were warmly received by Chan Meng Kam, chancellor and council chairman, and Rector Jun Liu. The delegation toured the campus and teaching facilities, and both sides engaged in discussions on higher education cooperation and talent development, exploring potential avenues for collaboration.

Chancellor Chan Meng Kam warmly welcomed Deputy Secretary Gao Shiwun and his delegation. Rector Liu Jun introduced the current landscape of higher education in Macao, sharing the history of CityU and its achievements in areas such as campus development, educational characteristics, and key disciplines. He pointed out that Macao’s advantageous positioning has created a solid platform for the development of higher education. Under this context, Rector Liu mentioned that CityU has seized opportunities in recent years to collaborate with overseas universities on joint education programs, establishing innovative talent cultivation models, resulting in significant improvements in both student quality and quantity.

Rector Liu continued by stating that with the support of big data technology, CityU has been promoting interdisciplinary construction, focusing on data science, language and culture, fintech, tourism and urban science, and health and wellness as the main directions for future discipline development. He hoped that the visit would help CityU establish connections with universities in Nanchang, allowing both sides to complement each other’s strengths and collaborate to promote innovative development in higher education in both places.

Deputy Secretary Gao Shiwun listened to the introduction and gained a detailed understanding of the highlights of CityU’s educational practices and talent cultivation. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions regarding curriculum development. Deputy Secretary Gao commended CityU’s efforts in this regard. He expressed hope for future collaboration between CityU and universities in Nanchang to jointly cultivate high-quality research talents.

Other participants in the meeting included Rao Shaoqing, member of the Standing Committee of Nanchang Municipal Committee and director of United Front Department of the Nanchang Municipal Committee; Tu Yaya, president of Hong Kong Nanchang Association; Prof. Andy Liu Wenjian, associate dean of the CityU’s Faculty of Data Science; Kathy Che Ka I, director of Rector’s Office; and Wu Cheng, head of Office of Global Affairs.
