City University of Macau (CityU) is commemorating its 44th anniversary on March 28, 2025, celebrating growth and achievements over four decades. To celebrate this occasion and share its accomplishments and future vision with the community, CityU has planned an inauguration ceremony on March 28 and an array of academic events throughout March and April, bringing together leading international and domestic experts, industry professionals, community leaders, and government officials for academic exchanges. The events will cover the latest research achievements focusing on sustainable urban development, the power of teaching in the artificial intelligence (AI) era, cross-border finance, and data security to benefit the academic community. The aim is to promote academic development and disciplinary construction based on collaborative wisdom, igniting the CityU anniversary celebrations through insightful discussions.

The celebrations will commence with a flag-raising ceremony, aiming to express gratitude to the motherland and the Macao SAR government for their unwavering support for higher education in Macao, foster a sense of national identity among students and faculty and express best wishes to the motherland, Macao, and CityU.

2. Inauguration Ceremony of the 44th Anniversary of City University of Macau cum 2025 International Forum on Urban Science
Right after the Inauguration Ceremony of the 44th Anniversary of City University of Macau held on March 28th, the 2025 International Forum on Urban Science will be held with the theme of “Historical Legacy and Modern Visions: Sustainable Urban Development in Metropolitan Areas.” The forum brings together renowned experts and young scholars of the related field through a series of sub-forums, including Master’s Forum, Greater Bay Area Dean’s Forum, Greater Bay Area Enterprise Forum, and Young and Senior Scholars’ Forum. Distinguished keynote speakers will include Chui Sai Peng José, presidents of The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau and the Macao Urban Planning Institute; Wu Zhiqiang, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and honorary dean of College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University; Shi Wenzhong, academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences and Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education of China; and Zhang Xinchang, academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences.
Moreover, a series of presentations and discussions will inaugurate the anniversary celebrations, featuring the latest research from scholars on crucial themes including the preservation and repurposing of historical heritage, the smart cities and digital transformation, and the urban diversity and inclusivity.

Since its release, the Overall Development Plan for the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has created ample opportunities for the opening of financial markets. This includes advancements in fintech technology, innovations of Hengqin-Macao cross-border green finance, the construction of a wealth management center, all aimed at fostering closer regulatory cooperation between the two places. CityU will hold the 3rd Hengqin-Macao Cross-Border Finance Academic Forum titled “Collaborative Development of Hengqin-Macao Cross-Border Finance,” inviting representatives from the financial and academic communities of both sides to discuss, explore, and offer valuable insights.

The 5th International English Power of Teaching Conference titled “The Future of English Education in Asia — Power of Teaching in the AI Era,” co-organized by CityU and National Geographic Learning (NGL), will be grandly held during the anniversary. The conference will explore current trends in English language teaching and emphasize global competency in diverse professional, national, and cultural contexts, aiming to bring the world into the classroom setting and connects the classroom with life. Speakers include Rector Jun Liu, president of The International Research Foundation of English Language Education (TIRF), Alexis Menten, founding director of the Center for Global Education at Asia Society; Mei Deming, professor at Shanghai International Studies University and leader of K12 experts group; Deborah Short, former president of TESOL; and Lixian Jin, chair professor of applied linguistics and dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at CityU.
