Rector Jun Liu delivers keynote at 2025 Jiangsu Conference on Industry-University-Research Cooperation and Exchange

The 2025 Jiangsu Conference on Industry-University-Research Cooperation and Exchange commenced today in Nanjing, organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology and hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Productivity Promotion Centre. Prof. Jun Liu, rector of City University of Macau (CityU) was the sole representative invited from Macao to attend the event. He delivered a keynote speech at the conference, outlining the industry-university-research landscape in Macao. Themed “science and technology advance productivity, innovation integrates development”, the conference featured dozens of academicians, over 100 high education institutions (HEIs), thousands of tech enterprises, and more than 10,000 sci-tech professionals, aiming to deepen the technological innovation technological and industrial integration, attract high-end innovative resources and promote the commercialization of research outcomes.

 

Prior to the conference, the representatives from leading HEIs and enterprises were welcomed by Xin Changxing, secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, and Xu Kunlin, deputy secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and governor. Rector Jun Liu, representing Macao’s HEIs, reported on their industry-academia collaboration aligned with the Macao’s “1+4” development strategy for economic diversification. He emphasized the development of the Sino-Portugal Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Science of Cultural Heritage Conservation (Belt and Road Joint Laboratory) co-established by CityU, Soochow University and the University of Évora in Portugal. Additionally, he outlined CityU’s achievements in leveraging big data to refine discipline and advance disciplines such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, health and wellness and fintech.The conference featured four specialized forums, where Rector Jun Liu addressed the Hong Kong-Macao forum on Industry-University-Research Cooperation and Exchange. He introduced CityU’s characteristics and development milestones, while detailing collaborations with Jiangsu’s HEIs and enterprises. He emphasized that Macao will foster its role as an international metropolis to advance industry-academia collaboration with Jiangsu Province, leveraging its role of being a magnet of international high-end talents and Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance. He explained that there are dedicated task forces across multiple disciplines to facilitate both sci-tech development and translation of research outcomes in Jiangsu. 

Following the event, Rector Jun Liu received exclusive interviews by the China National Radio (CNR) and local media. He gave a detailed introduction on high-tech and fintech sectors and Macao’s commitment to industry-academia collaboration.
