To implement the Macao SAR government’s policies in the social and cultural sector and actively respond to the educational needs of local seniors, the Academy for Seniors at the City University of Macao (CityU) has launched a certificate program with a duration of one academic year. The opening ceremony for the program was held today at the Royal Campus, attended by Vice Rector Ip Kuai Peng. The year-long certificate program covers two semesters, totaling 180 class hours, with 24 local seniors participating this semester. Upholding the core philosophy of “lifelong learning” and “social inclusion”, the program includes various formats such as classroom instruction, visits, and special lectures. Covering diverse topics such as digital skills, health and wellness, traditional Chinese medicine theories, and Macao's traditional crafts, the program leverages university and community resources to create enriching learning opportunities for seniors. The program encourages seniors to continue learning, enhance their quality of life, and increase their social participation, realizing the vision of “lifelong learning and promoting a sense of achievement and happiness among the elderly,” promoting their physical and mental well-being, and helping them integrate into society and improve their quality of life.
Vice Rector Ip Kuai Peng pointed out that the establishment of the Academy for Seniors not only provides a diverse learning platform for seniors but also serves as an important bridge connecting higher education and community resources. He highlighted the aims to meet the diverse needs of seniors and further support the Macao SAR government’s goals of “lifelong learning and promoting a sense of achievement and happiness among the elderly”.Vice Rector Ip continued by mentioning that the International Training and Testing Center (ITTC) of the City University of Macau, as the managing unit of the Academy, will fully leverage its educational, training advantages and this year-long program to promote the Academy as an important base for active social engagement and continuous education for seniors, fostering social inclusion and intergenerational harmony, and contributing to the construction of an inclusive and friendly society.

Since its launch in March of this year, the Academy for Seniors, upholding the core philosophy of “lifelong learning” and “social inclusion”, has actively bridged cooperations with community senior service organizations and fully utilized the advantages of the University’s learning platform to build a diverse learning and service network. Going forward, the Academy for Seniors will continue to strengthen close collaboration with community partners, promote resource sharing and complementary advantages, and expand health promotion services and interactive learning experiences. It aims to facilitate collaborative efforts among the community, government, and universities, dedicated to creating more enriching and colorful health experiences for local seniors.
